Lesson 5 of 5 · Doing Great Work5 min

Asking for Help and Support

Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. Knowing when and how to ask — and what supports you can request — helps you succeed and feel good at work.

In this lesson

  • Know when and how to ask for help.
  • Understand workplace accommodations.

When to ask for help

  • You're stuck. You tried, but you can't figure out the next step.

  • It's unsafe. Something could hurt you or others.

  • You're overwhelmed. You need a moment or a clearer plan.

What are accommodations?

An accommodation is a change that helps you do your job. Workers with disabilities have the right to ask for reasonable ones.

  • Written instructions instead of spoken ones.
  • Noise-reducing headphones in loud areas.
  • A checklist or visual schedule.
  • A quiet spot for breaks.
  • A set, predictable routine.

A job coach can help

If work feels hard, a job coach can support you — at the job site, with your boss, and with figuring out what helps. You don't have to do it alone.
