Lesson 3 of 6 · Understanding Relationships5 min

Boundaries and Consent

A boundary is a limit that keeps you comfortable and safe. Consent means giving or asking for a clear yes before doing something. Both protect you and the people around you.

In this lesson

  • Understand what a personal boundary is.
  • Understand what consent means.

Your boundaries

A boundary is your personal limit. It can be about your body, your time, your things, or your feelings.

  • Body. You decide who can hug or touch you. It's okay to say, 'I don't like hugs.'

  • Time. You can say, 'I need some alone time.'

  • Things. You can say no to lending money or your phone.

What consent means

Consent means a clear yes, given freely. Before you touch, borrow, or share, ask. And others should ask you.

If someone says no, or seems unsure, the answer is no. A real yes is not given because of pressure or fear.

Respecting others

Just like you have boundaries, so does everyone else. Ask before hugging, borrowing, or sharing. Listen when someone says no.

Quick check

Try these to see what you remember. There are no grades — pick an answer to see how you did.

1. If someone says no or seems unsure, what does that mean?
