Showering and Washing

A shower washes off sweat, dirt, and dead skin. It helps you feel fresh and stops body odor. Most people shower once a day or every other day.

In this lesson

  • Know how often to shower.
  • Follow a simple shower routine from head to toe.

How often to shower

Showering once a day or every other day works for most people. Shower more often if you sweat a lot, play sports, or work a physical job.

What you need

  • Soap or body wash.
  • Shampoo (for your hair).
  • A clean towel.
  • Clean clothes to change into.

A simple shower routine

  • Step 1. Turn on the water and check the temperature. Warm — not too hot — is best.

  • Step 2. Get your whole body wet.

  • Step 3. Wash your hair with shampoo, then rinse it out.

  • Step 4. Use soap to wash your body. Don't skip your underarms, private areas, feet, and behind your ears.

  • Step 5. Rinse all the soap off your body.

  • Step 6. Turn off the water and dry yourself with a clean towel.

Staying safe

  • Use a bath mat so you don't slip.

  • Test the water with your hand before you get in so it isn't too hot.
